Motorcycle tour over the Passo Stelvio and Passo Gavia mountain passes

340 km - full-day bike tour over the highest pass in the Alps

We start at Rider Hotel Obereggen and drive down the valley towards Ponte Nova/Birchabruck right to South Tyrol's provincial capital Bolzano. Along the highway MEBO this tour leads you to the spa town of Merano/Meran, go further along the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley passing Naturno/Naturns and continue up to Silandro/Schlanders. Once there, follow the road to Spondinig, into the direction of Prato/Prad up on the Passo Stelvio/Stilfser Joch mountain pass, the highest mountain pass in the Alps. Drive carefully on the descent to Bormio, this road leads you through narrow and unlit tunnels. At S.Caterina we continue up to the Passo Gavia mountain pass, where the road is really narrow at the descending. After Ponte di Legno follows the Passo Tonale mountain pass, a well-known winter sports resort. Then you will pass the towns Mezzana, Malè, Cloz, Fondo until the Passo della Mendola, from which you have a beautiful view of Caldaro/Kaltern and the Lago di Caldaro lake, the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. We continue on to Caldaro, Ora, Montan, Aldino and San Pietro back into the Val d'Ega/Eggental valley. Two kilometers above San Pietro there is South Tyrol's largest pilgrimage site, the convent of Maria Weissenstein. We follow the road to Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen down to Rio Nero/Schwarzenbach. At the next crossroads we turn towards Passo Lavazè mountain pass and reach the end of our tour - the Rider Hotel Obereggen.
